Browned Butter Pasta

A quick disclaimer: This is not a blog about browned butter dishes, however, it is my current obsession!

A few months ago I had a wonderful Chicken Marsala with Browned Butter Pasta topped with Mizithra Cheese from Spaghetti Factory.  Now, if you have never tried any dish with browned butter I highly recommend it!  It has a delicious nutty smell and taste that is just fantastic!  The mizithra cheese is a form of goat cheese and it is simply creamy and delicious!

In my last post I made browned butter no bake cookies.  Once I realized that the browned butter was what I loved so much about that pasta dish I knew I had to try to recreate it.  I have searched high and low for mizithra cheese, but had to settle for Parmesan cheese when I recreated this dish.  I will not give up the search though!

So here it is pasta lovers!  Prepare to indulge!

3 needed ingredients and 1 optional!  Box of spaghetti noodles (I prefer angel hair or thin spaghetti), 1 stick of butter, Parmesan cheese (or mizithra cheese if you can find it-try to!)

Boil spaghetti noodles

Browing butter is a scary and delicious thing!
Be VERY careful that you take it off the heat as soon as it reaches a golden brown.  You should also be able to tell that it has reached the right point by smell also.  A delicious, nutty smell!

Once butter is browned toss with noodles and top with cheese.  Add some butter bread and ENJOY!!!

**This post was a long time coming.  I had forgotten, unfortunately, about my blog and opened it to find this post saved and pending.  I hope you enjoy!  It is amazing!

Browned Butter and Honey Dulce de Leche No-Bake Cookies

As promised here it is!  My first true post!

I love anything pumpkin.  Well, anything pumpkin except the new pumpkin M&Ms.  Those were a big disappointment!  However, most everything else is delicious!  I made pumpkin pancakes last week and had half a can of pumpkin left over.  I did not want to waste it and decided to try these Spiced Pumpkin No Bake Cookies that I came across on Pinterest.  Wow!  They were really good!

Upon reading that blog I also saw that the same site had a recipe for Browned Butter & Dulce de Leche No-Bake Cookies.  Having leftover Dulce de Leche from the pumpkin no bakes I decided to give it a try.  WOW!  AMAZING!  I had to make a few slight adjustments and they are marked in the recipe below.

6 simple ingredients!  I added honey to kick up the sweet just a little.  Also, dulce de leche comes in a can and you can find it near the sweetened condensed milk in the baking aisle.  Mine was not in the can as it was leftover from another baking project.

Browning butter made me very nervous!  I have not ever done this!  This is my week for trying new things!  Last night I made roux for the first time with great success!  Today browned butter.  I was so glad that it turned out well!  Be VERY careful that you take it off the heat as soon as it reaches a golden brown.  You should also be able to tell that it has reached the right point by smell also.  A delicious, nutty smell.  The smell reminded me of a delicious pasta I had a Spaghetti Factory a few months ago.  I thought it was the cheese that created that wonderful aroma, but I now know it was the butter and will be trying to recreate that dish soon!

Once the mix is combined lay out parchment paper and spoon by tablespoons.  You can make smaller cookies if you desire.

YUM!  Great for early Fall with a cup of coffee!

Brown Butter Dulche de Leche No Bake Cookies
Adapted from Project Domestication

3 TBS unsalted butter
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup dulce de leche
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp honey
3 cup old-fashioned oats

Brown butter over medium heat.
Add salt and stir until mostly dissolved.  It will not dissolve fully.  Add dulce de leche, honey, and milk until the dulce de leche is melted and the butter/honey/milk/dulce de leche is combined.  Let boil then for about 3 minutes.  Be sure to keep an eye on it.  It is easy to burn this combination.  Watch it and use your nose!  If it smells like it is cooked turn off the heat!  Stir in oats.  Place by tablespoon (or soup spoon) onto parchment paper.  Let cool and enjoy!  You can speed up cooling process by putting in the refrigerator.

Let's Try Again!

I understand that Blog Post 2 is way behind schedule!  This blogging thing was a little bit more overwhelming than I expected!  I made my first post and then wondered (to myself for 9-10 months) "What now?"  The answer is KEEP GOING!  So I am giving it another go!  Please stick with me!  I want to share!  I have realized that it is easier to focus more on one topic rather than to be all over the map.  While I love crafting it is something that I don't always keep track of my steps on.  I just do what I feel works.  Cooking and baking, however, is a science.  There are steps that must be followed and it is harder to stray away.

Therefore, the focus of this blog will be cooking and baking.  I often am posting about recipes to my friends and find that this will be a great way to share the recipes and my results.  Crafts may make a guest appearance, but what you will find most of the time will be food!  So please, sit back, grab your appetite, and join me on this journey!

A New Adventure

This is a new adventure for me.  Starting a blog is something that I have thought about for awhile.  I love looking at blogs that deal with two things...two of my favorite things...crafting and baking!  What better blog for me to start than one that combines both!

As a child I was into whatever crafting kit I could get my hands on.  As I grew out of bead kits, sand art kits, and whatever craft involved stickers I grew into scrapbooking.  I did what I thought was good scrapbooking throughout my high school years and then stopped.  I felt that I had nothing to scrapbook.  Several years went by and my aunt asked me to make a scrapbook of her new grandson for her daughter for Christmas.  Challenge accepted!  Shortly after I got a new puppy and started her a scrapbook.  Next, I got a Cricut machine and the rest is history!  I love to scrapbook!

Scrapbooking also turned into my other favorite crafting hobby, which is making cards.  I love the challenge of thinking of new cards for all my loved ones and also seeing their reaction when they receive one.

Last, but not least, I enjoy baking.  I have always been more of a baker than a cooker and love spending down time trying new recipes and amusing my sweet tooth.  Cupcakes, cake, brownies, breads, and any other yummy concoction that I can dream up!  I get my recipes from family, friends, co-workers, Pinterest, cooking shows, and cookbooks.  I also have a few food blogs that I follow and look forward to sharing with you.

So, please, I invite you back to share in my blog adventure.  I look forward to sharing my homemade creations with you and hope that my hobbies inspire you to have fun, craft, and bake for those you love!
